One of my Oldest Hibiscuses
It's probably 20 years old. I no longer remember where I found it. Probably a local garden store.
This plant has been through three pot transplants. Plus, it has survived at least 4 extreme cold snaps (over the years) in the Solar Room that killed off most of the other Tropicals. Although we designed the Solar Room to be a home for house plants, some Winters here in the Heartland are just too extreme for the room to maintain enough warmth during a long stretch of subzero, cloudy days. After last February's extreme, bitter cold in the Solar Room, I didn't think this plant would survive another year. It was really in bad shape and barely holding on for several months afterwards.
However, it has again surprised me and made an amazing recovery during the Summer months. I love this plant. Year after year, it has been a reliable bloomer and is so pretty.
