US First Lady Has COVID (8-16-22)

Omicron is so contagious that no one is safe: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/first-lady-jill-biden-tests-positive-covid-19

The day before, the top executive at Pfizer, a leading producer of COVID-19 vaccines, also tested positive for the virus: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pfizer-ceo-tests-positive-for-covid-19-with-mild-symptoms/

So has the US Defense Secretary who already had COVID-19 during the first Omicron surge in January

If you don't take special precautions & instead just follow the new CDC guidelines, COVID will probably find you, too...

Unfortunately, vaccination and Paxlovid won't prevent Long COVID.
White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha, MD, said more than 70% of the U.S. population has had the virus, according to the latest CDC data.

COVID is a disease like no other. It is the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA. On top of that, one in every four to five Americans (20 to 25%), who have gotten COVID (& survived), now have Long COVID. Even if you avoid Long COVID the first time around, the more often you get the virus, the higher your risk of developing Long COVID; which can have lifelong symptoms and be disabling for many. So, it is best - if you can at all help it - to not let the virus get you. Such folks (around 30% of the US population) are now being called "COVID Virgins". We remain among that small group of virgins... However, vaccinated or not, everyone is vulnerable. People can also get COVID over and over and over again.

Immunity from vaccination or prior infection is very short lived. Although human behavior may not reflect it, the USA (and the World) is still experiencing a COVID pandemic. COVID has not yet become endemic. As much as people may wish it away or try to pretend that life is again the same as before 2020, the pandemic really is not over. At least 100,000 Americans come down with COVID each day. Too many people are also still dying. Plus now, Long COVID has also become a significant, societal health concern for the Nation going forward.

At this stage, nearly everyone I know has had it, even people who are being careful. Fingers crossed, we've avoided it so far but are probably leading a quieter more secluded life than most.
Here, few people are wearing masks although a friend who has returned from a short trip to Germany said it was the norm there.
