After the freeze that hit our Solar Room this past February, I was left with only 50% of my sizable hibiscus collection. However, although still alive, the survivors are not in very good shape. Even 3 space heaters running full blast during the coldest days in February couldn't completely save those plants that weren't killed outright by the extreme cold.
Fingers crossed, these plants Summering outdoors will help them some regain enough strength to face another Winter indoors. Obviously, they're not going to flower this Summer. But maybe by Fall, they will grow some leaves and look more like healthy plants again.
Hopefully, the Winter of 2022/2023 won't be as brutal as February 2022 inside the Solar Room. But with the weather extremes much of the world faces these days, who knows? Even now in May, we've had a 30 degree difference between the high yesterday and the high today. So I'm not holding a lot of hope for stability during the future Winter months... Meanwhile, this scene will be part of my "everyday" until October. Last Summer, all of these plants (plus the ones I totally lost in February) put on a beautiful flower show for me that was constant. Many of the plants continued to bloom even after I brought them indoors in early November & until the killing freeze in February. At least, I still have those good memories.
Above is a "memory shot", but of a different kind. The above photo is just a moment in time.
