The full-sized ship was owned by the builder/owner of the 17th Century Nyhavn townhouse where the model now is now on display.

The original full-size ship's owner must have been quite wealthy. It was a large sailing vessel used for import/export. However, I don't know how old this model is. I was told 100 years old, but it looks in really good shape.
