Late Fall 2020

Meteorologist Fall

Tuesday US COVID News

“Covid-19 hospitalizations in the United States hit an all-time high of 61,964 on Tuesday, as the raging pandemic continued to shatter record after record and strain medical facilities.”

“Trump recently suggested that he might fire Fauci after the election. Asked whether he is concerned that the President may pressure the National Institutes of Health director to fire him, Fauci said, ‘I hope not.’ He said that would not help with the common goal: ‘No matter who you are, regardless of what administration, we all want this pandemic to end.’” MSNBC

“Trump defies election loss, blocks Biden. A week after losing the US election, President Donald Trump remained shut up in the White House on Tuesday, pushing an alternate reality that he is about to win and blocking Democrat Joe Biden's ability to prepare the transition.”
AFP News “At the same time, Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have plunged into tackling the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, they announced a 13-member advisory council that will assist them and their transition team in mapping out policies to curtail the outbreak. After meeting with the task force, Biden took on his new role of messenger in chief, imploring Americans to wear masks and practice social distancing as he warned of a “dark winter” ahead with Covid-19 cases surging around the country. ‘It doesn’t matter your party. It doesn’t matter who you voted for,’ he said. ‘We can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask.’” Bloomberg News

“The C.D.C. updates its findings: Mask-wearing protects you, not just those around you.” NY Times

“Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. Later Monday afternoon, two sources confirmed to CNN that another individual in Trump's orbit, David Bossie, had tested positive for coronavirus. The diagnosis came days after he was tapped to oversee the Trump campaign's legal challenges contesting the outcome of the election.” CNN

“Twenty-eight employees of the election board in one of Missouri’s largest counties (Jackson County, KC Metro) are sick with the coronavirus. Two are hospitalized, one in intensive care.” Associated Press

“KC Metro ‘now reached uncontrolled community spread of COVID’” KCTV

The COVID news is very bad. However, the election of a new president offers hope; if we are able to get past this Winter. As a country, we need to work together to control this deadly virus!!!

Meanwhile, the leaves from the Silver Maple and the Sycamore are on the ground. The weather here has abruptly changed from 75 degrees yesterday to 40 today with a wind chill of 22 degrees. Most activities will be indoors now.

Forlorn is a good word, used by Gill, to describe this scene, which also describes the state of affairs with Covid. As for Trump.... unbelievable. V
