Supposedly at the peak...

While party goers (heard in the distance in our neighborhood) were out taking their chances with the COVID pandemic on July 4th, we were at home with Nature. Moon gazing came as a break from all the craziness in the US these days.

Soon after the surprise Fourth of July fireworks "show", my husband went to bed. First, he set my tripod up for me on the patio. I stayed up & watched Nature's show. To be really honest, the show was pretty much the same as other Penumbral Lunar Eclipses I've photographed in the past. Penumbral Eclipses lack the excitement of a Full Lunar Eclipse: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/penumbral-lunar-eclipse.html For the most part, they merely resemble a full moon.
Color of the moon was quite interesting. It remained this orange red until after I went to bed at 3AM; even when it was higher in the sky. Total Lunar Eclipses are known for their red coloring, but to-my-knowledge penumbral ones aren't particularly. However, there was a lot of things going on with the sky on Saturday night. The humidity level was extremely high. Plus there was heavy smoke in the air from massive fireworks. Still, since tonight's full moon looks exactly like this again, I really don't know what has caused the coloring last night. Or tonight.
It's just Nature.
This is the first full moon of Summer. This is our 4th full moon in Stay-at-Home Isolation. The eclipse may not have been that noticeable, but staying up to enjoy the peacefulness of the moon was time well spent.
