I brought my herbs inside last Fall to winter in the Solar Room. Some did okay. Others didn't. Because I use basil heavily in my cooking and salads, I grew 6 different varieties of basil. Each one had its own subtle flavor. Sadly, all of my basil plants - except the one used as the basis for the above image - died in March. I'm not sure of what happened. Maybe they got overlooked for watering as the pandemic became more of a focus in life. Only a tiny bit of the remaining plant (as seen above) remains. So its future remains questionable.
Because we live just 2 miles from a major garden center, I called and asked if we could do a contactless pickup of a few plants. The answer was no, "You need to pick out your own plants & then pay inside." So unless the above plant grows stronger, it looks like we won't have any basil this year. Nor new flowering plants on the deck. A minor thing during a pandemic & certainly not worth our health by getting involved with the large crowds that are now flocking to the garden center. Things are now busier than ever; with social distancing impossible. Although they are recommended, almost no one is wearing a mask.
