This was our second (and larger) measurable snow for the 2019 Fall season.
This was just the start. We eventually got 2.9 inches at our house Fortunately, it melted quickly and did not cause any problems with the trees that still have their leaves.
October Snows are rare in the Kansas City metro.
Below is a list of the only times (in recorded history) that Kansas City had October snows: including the Season's first snowfall in October. Plus also the for the years rankings for having the most snow in October. This year was the area's 5th Earliest Snow in recorded history; plus one ranked #4 for the most October snow ever.

The biggest (and second earliest snow here ever) was back on October 22nd in 1996. Only flurries were predicted, but that snowfall ended up being 6.5 inches with heavier areas in the suburbs like where we live. Because my husband and I were out of town (gone to Canada - where there was no snow - for a dog show), we missed that main event. However returning home, we had to dig our buried car out in the airport parking lot. To this day, that snow is still called the "October Surprise".
