Asian Tiger Mosquito

Aedes Albopictus

Not at all a photo that I wanted to post. However, since I unwillingly gave blood, I took a photo of the culprit and am posting it.

It was a daylight "hit" inside my Solar Room where I was repotting house plants. This mosquito was still alive (but missing parts) after I swatted her. Once, I got my photo, I totally finished her off; so that she couldn't recover & bite anyone again. Unfortunately, she probably has a lot of relatives also looking for a blood meal.

"The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus (Skuse), was first documented in the United States in Texas in 1985 (Sprenger and Wuithiranyagool 1986). A year later, the Asian tiger mosquito was found in Florida at a tire dump site near Jacksonville (O'Meara 1997). Since that time, this species has spread rapidly throughout the eastern states, including all of Florida's 67 counties (O'Meara 1997)." University of Florida

This may be the first year that this mosquito species has invaded Northwestern Missouri. However, recent weather patterns have been ideal for these "exotic", disease carrying mosquitos to now flourish as they move northward in the USA.

Fine image but not good news! Something more to worry about. Strange how so many things like this never happened in the past, but all seem to be coming on us in the last 50-100 years.
