Flash Flooding 2019

This photo was taken AFTER the rushing waters were already subsiding.

Just 5 minutes before the photo, the scene had 4 times the quantity of rushing water. This water flow is occurring where there normally is no stream. The full strength of such "dry area" flash flooding was almost unbelievable to see.

Unfortunately, following the severe thunderstorm and heavy rains - that accompanied May 28th Tornado Warning - we couldn't safely go outside for a while. Once the tornado had passed by us, storm damage debris - from as far as 50 miles away - was still raining down from the sky. So I had to wait to get any sort of photo.

This Spring our backyard is sadly being eroded away from repeat flash floods like this. This is not being caused by any body of water (stream, lake, or even puddle) on our property that is overflowing. Instead, these flash floods are being caused by the sheer volume of heavy rain (on already saturated ground) alone.

When and if the rains ever stop long enough, we're going to have to bring in trucks full of dirt to replace parts of our backyard that have been totally washed away. The last step off our deck originally was flush with the lawn. Now, there is a steep 18 to 20 inch drop off!!! And from there, there is now an eroding steep and uneven slope that has become dangerous.

More rain is expected tonight.

A very sad sight knowing the circumstances. Very green and vibrant though despite the rain. I hope it clears up for you soon.
