Macro Lens

This was a totally unexpected image.

I was shooting a macro close up "indoors" when I heard the geese. I couldn't resist, I ran outside & just shot. My settings were "whatever" I had carefully chosen for the macro shot. That exposure compensation setting was not what I would have normally chosen for this shot. But I had no time to make changes. On top of everything else, the lens on my camera had no real reach.

Still this shot gave me the satisfaction of having at least photographed some kind of wildlife. I really needed this "wildlife fix" on an otherwise boring Winter day. Although just common Canada Geese, capturing them flying over made my day.

When people insist that they can't use a Prime Lens because it limits them too much, I will agree that a Prime Lens is limited in its range. However, a good photographer learns to work around that (when possible) & to make the best use of whatever lens is in your hands. If you can't get a close up of one goose in flight, you go for a group scene instead. Luckily, this surprise fly over was close enough for me to do that with a 100mm Lens.
