Stroller

A combined
Birthday present for Bailey
and a Christmas gift for Bailey & Bella together.

I always thought dog strollers were dumb UNTIL I realized that having one can be a big benefit for a small dog owner. So on Bailey's birthday, we decided to order this stroller.

A stroller allows my pair of 2 1/2 pound Chihuahuas the chance to enjoy new sights and fresh air; while going with me on my daily health walks. Although mighty and hearty for their size, teeny tiny dogs unfortunately cannot take the same kind of LONG walks as a big dog. Just as a toddler cannot walk as far as a 20 year old. A stroller also protects tiny dogs when out & about. That thought relieves me from always being wary & on guard of stray dogs when out walking with my dogs. For many years, I showed in competition, AKC Obedience trials with my Chihuahuas; so I'm not an overly protective doggy mom. However, I am also aware that my dogs' super small size can put them at a serious disadvantage with a large aggressive dog.

This particular stroller is a heavy duty, jogging stroller with bicycle tire type wheels. That means it can be taken on the street and on dirt jogging trails and even over grass. The dogs can walk when they want to, but ride if they get tired. This is especially important with older dogs who enjoy going places (like our almost 17 year old), but may not be as active as they once were. Considering these advantages, I no longer feel that having a dog stroller is dumb. A stroller can provide dog(s) and owner extra opportunities to share things together; no matter what the size or age of the dog.

Another plus for having the stroller is that it can carry heavier camera equipment in addition to (or even instead of) the dogs. Pushing a stroller is definitely easier than pulling a camera case behind me.

Today was Bella's first time in the stroller; just to get use to it. Based on her tail wagging, I think she's going to enjoy it.
