This may have been the "largest portion" dish of the evening.
Note the size of the small tomato wedge.
That also may have been the largest serving of vegetables during dinner.
However, dinner for two cost close to $400. Without wine or drinks.
"Bluestem has received local and national accolades including being named as a 2015 James Beard Foundation semi-finalist for “Outstanding Restaurant” for an invigorating marriage of cuisine and hospitality."
The tasting menu was lovely. However, the fish dish (main course) was one bite of fish (the size of a green bean) and one green bean (cut into 5 pieces). That certainly does not does not satisfy a hungry diner. The portion sizes and everything put on a plate was so small that the kitchen staff literally used TWEEZERS as the main serving implements. Very pretty presentation, but that's about all I can say.
We've done tasting dinners before at other fine restaurants. However, a single leaf of basil did not dwarf the dish being served like the dishes at Blue Stem.
Everything was well presented, very pretty, and had excellent flavors.
However ONE single, tiny, 1 1/2" macaroon - to be split between TWO people - is not my idea of dessert. We didn't even each get our own small cookie. By that point in the meal, I wished I'd eaten the decorative flowers above served earlier with the soup course.
When I got home, I had a bowl of Cheerios because I felt like I'd missed dinner...
