Christchurch, New Zealand 2009

before the quake

Following the last quake back in September, I never dreamed that a mere 5 months later that another - this time deadly - earthquake would strike. My heart goes out to the people of Christchurch. So many lives have been lost. http://www.fijivillage.com/?mod=story&id=230211d1ce072c8bdd7fda15825499 Unlike with the September 2010 quake, this beautiful cathedral (symbol of the City) has become a victim in February 2011. Tourist lives were taken; as the tower crumbled and turned into rubble http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/feb/22/newzealand-natural-disasters

Back in September, I was very sad to hear news of the destruction of much of this beautiful and historic city on New Zealand's South Island http://us.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/09/03/new.zealand.quake/index.html However, I no longer have adequate words to express what I now feel following the most recent February 2011 quake. Prayers are being said for all.

Luckily the cathedral appears to have emerged relatively undamaged.

Such a pretty church - the one good thing is no one was killed, bricks and stones can be rebuilt.

I've been trying to find out if the cathedral is still standing. It's such a landmark in Ch/church!! This is a great shot, with excellent detail, and typical sky!
