A snow storm on Christmas Eve and Day 2009 broke all records for the Metro dating back to 1888.
This http://www.pbase.com/britestar/image/120587859 turned into the above scene just 24 hours later.
Starting on Christmas Eve, the snow storm continued through Christmas Day & is still going on the day after Christmas. It will still continue thru tomorrow. At the moment, there has been 60 straight hours of continuous ice, snow, and sleet, and it is still snowing.
Normally, there is only a 20% chance of a White Christmas here. A "White Christmas" includes any snow (even a trace) on the ground on Christmas Day. In most cases, White Christmases come from snow that has fallen before Christmas & still remains on the ground.
Actual Christmas Day snows have only happened 3 times during the past 121 years. None have happened during the past 50 years.
A Christmas Blizzard with this much snow fall has also been totally unheard of until this weekend.
