Rice grass was planted in the former Lotus pool & the Lotus disappeared.
Nevertheless, after over a year with no Lotus, there are once again Lotus in 2009. They are now in a different pool: one of the few pools left that still is good for photography. Hopefully, the return of the Lotus will now help with the return of frogs. When the rice grass took over the Lotus Pool, the frogs (thousands) seemed to disappear from the public area. I'm happy to see this habitat return - even if it is in a different pool.
Now, I wish the Muskrat mounds now would also return. Beside providing Muskrat photo opts, those mounds have in the past also provided Eagle photo opts. Unfortunately, most of the mounds have moved to the Restricted Area. Therefore, this year's Eagle migration may not be as easily photographed. Everything that happens on the Marsh seems to depend on everythng else.
