Eagle's Retreat

Not only has much of the water disappeared from the Marsh (that water once started on the right side of this photo). This wooded grove of trees beside the Marsh has also been significantly changed during the past couple of years.
As recently as 2007, this grove was a favorite nightime roost for as many of 50 to 100 migrating Eagles. Unfortunately, the main part of the grove has since been cut down and only a few trees now remain. Therefore, it is doubtful the Eagles will return in mass this year. Only a handful roosted here in 2008. Most Eagles instead opted to go to another part of the Refuge that is restricted to visitors. This grove has even fewer trees to attract Eagles in 2009.
