Friday we had 72 degree, record breaking temperatures with heavy rain & severe thunder storms. Then, things abruptly changed. Six hours later, it was only 23 degrees with an mix of Wintertime precipitation ranging from hail (the large round crystals), to a layer of freezing rain coating the deck with ice, to a fresh, lightly falling combination of new ice combined with snow (the small white crystals). This all added up to create Nature's Abstract Art.
Hubby thought I'd lost my mind when I suddenly ran outside dressed only in slippers & robe to capture this image. Brrrrr. However, I wanted to get it before the snow covered everything in a blanket of white. It looks like it's going to be a loooong winter for me... If it's got to be so cold, I'd rather be in Yellowstone photographing wolves than looking at this on my back deck.
