Juvenile Bald Eagle

My first time out with the "new" Canon 50D, and I'm very happy.
This was a hand held,"assurance" shot before I really got set up to photograph the subject.
However, as soon as I clicked the shutter for one single shot, the nervous Eagle bolted. Because he flew away from (not toward) me into the sun, the following flight shots were merely "butt silhouettes".
Working with difficult lighting yesterday, I was then glad that I had made sure the sun was at a good angle before trying this portrait. This was a great test run on the new camera. BTW, I am also delighted to see the Eagles are now starting to migrate through Missouri on their way South.

They are here all year round but come in much larger numbers when the salmon are running. This is a wonderful portrait. Well done.

Truthfully, I probably wouldn't have done much differently when set up - beyond using a tripod and watching for changing expressions and moving clouds. I had already taken a lot of time trying to make sure that the sun was in the best possible position for the subject. This was an "insurance" shot in case the Eagle flew before I got the tripod set up. And he did.
