Consumer Level but still gets decent images in good lighting. I'd say the main weakness is dynamic range.
I keep the SL1 in my travel Pelican case for "an emergency". I have also had to use it for major photo assignments twice now when my other two DSLR's failed.
The SL1 also makes a nice walk-around camera locally when I want to take a DSLR and not a lot of weight.
It's faster and can hit pin point focus better than a Bridge Camera.
