The Pulgas Water Temple was erected by the San Francisco Water Department as a monument to the 1934 completion of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. It is a monument to the engineering marvel that brought Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles across California from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area.
