These remarkable sand dunes in Death Valley are ever changing in shape due to the wind and are quite large. If you look carefully in the dark area of the sand dune in the background you can see a light patch caused by footprints, which gives an idea of the scale. We made this image at sunrise after hiking across the desert floor and climbing the steep side of the dune before the sun rose over the horizon. It reminded me of an old black and white move called 'Ice cold in Alex' which my Dad took me to see as a a young boy.
