These vaulted arches between the gun emplacements of Fort Point, San Francisco are typical of third system fortifications. This fort sits beneath the Golden Gate bridge arch at the South end. It was spared from destruction when the bridge was built because of the intricate brickwork in it's structure. That's why the Golden Gate bridge has a small arch at the San Francisco city end.
