These are photos from three backpacking routes we hiked in October 2025 in southern Utah and northern Arizona (Grand Canyon). All turned out to be fantastic with stormy weather and flash floods on our first day forcing us to change our original plan (Buckskin Gulch and the lower Paria Canyon). But the resulting cool, cloudy weather gave clear air and atmospheric views. Perfect backpacking conditions..

Escalante North 7 days- Upper Muley Twist, Lamp Stand plateau, Egg Canyon, Upper Gulch, unnamed slickrock area, Bingham Tea Bench, Lower Gulch, Ladder exit from Escalante river, Cosmic Navel, Spencer Flats, Phipps Canyon, Escalante bridge.
Capitol Reef high route 3 days- Pleasant Creek, high slickrock traverse, Capitol Gorge, Golden Throne trail, cross country to Fern's Nipple, Grand Wash to Fremont River, (day trip to lower Spring Canyon after flash floods stopped us).
Grand Canyon Boucher 5 days- Upper Hermit trail, Boucher trail descent, Tonto trail north to Crystal Rapids, Boucher Rapids, Hermit Creek, Monument Creek to Granite Rapids, Tonto trail to Havasupi Gardens and Cremation camp, South Kiabab trail exit and rim trail back to car.
