Mexican Gold Poppies - Spring 2005

An historic bloom has been occurring over the deserts of the Southwest the Spring. I havn't had nearly enough time to enjoy the show, but did get a chance to photograph a few of the poppies in and around Lake Pleasant, Picacho Peak, and Cave Creek State Park (Arizona).

The orange of the poppies is simply stunning - almost blinding - at times, and sets an amazing contrast against the blue Arizona skies. These images were taken with my Canon 10D, and one of my old favoriate cameras, my Canon G2. Enjoy!

Nice job Brian. I have been 1) tied up with family lately and 2) not had as good luck as you finding various poppy locations. The ranger at Dutchman Park as the west end of Apache trail said all the rain brought weeds that choked out the poppies this year! But you found some and did a great job. Looks like you may have found a new wide angle lens for your camera as well? Or dug a hole in front of one set of plants ;-) See what little I did get under my "desert flowers" gallery. Fred
