A very windy morning on the Mesquite Dunes. The wind must have been blowing in excess of 40-50 mph;
I could barely stand, let alone take a photo! This was one of the photos I was looking for, that is,
an image with the windblown sand blowing off of the top of a dune crest, it took a while to find the
right composition, but ended up finding this on the west side of the dune field. As a side note, I'll
tell you later how much 'fun' it was to change lenses on this dune at this moment...I had my wide
angle on when I arrived at this point and had to switch to my telephoto.
Notice the exposure and ISO I had to use for this shot: 1/500s (to keep some definition of the
sand grains), f/18 (to hold focus throughout the depth of field here), ISO 1000 (!) to achieve both
f/18 and 1/500s. I tried many combinations of ISO/shutter speed/focal length...this was the optimal
combination.
