I have never even heard of sun gogs, never seen another image of one. This is truly stunning. I am lost for words (a rarity in itself)

Phew!

I missed this one before. Looks like a 'once in a life-time' experience. I'd be a nervous wreck trying to get into position before it all fell apart and was too late to capture. Are those stars in the dawn's early light? Amazing! g

This image was taken at sunrise, on a very cold (-2 F) morning in Flagstaff, AZ. Ice crystals were forming in the clear, still air. I had to walk through about 20 yards of knee-deep snow to reach a position where the tree blocked out the sun, and used the shadow of the trees to augment the snowy foreground. It was taken with my Canon 10D, with my 17-40 at the widest setting.

I don't usually think of viewing a photo as a jaw droping experience. I do with this picture. How about a few details - where? When? How?
