A narrow strip of cloud had been blocking the sun for about five minutes, but it was clear that any moment it would rise above it and again saturate this amphitheater with warm light. I set up my tripod and camera for the shot I had envisioned; Thor’s Hammer rich in reflected sunlight, with the rest of Bryce Canyon in the background still in shadow, cold and blue. The photograph came out very much as envisioned, though I did struggle a bit with the composition. A panorama at this point, or very wide angle would have given a much different look and feel…
