This image was taken soon after of the waterfall photograph in this gallery. I had turned around and started to walk back to the car (yes, this time of year you can drive throughout Zion Canyon!) I was struck by the symmetry and contrast between the reflected water streaming down the canyon wall and the tree in silhouette - and also the shadow on the other side of the tree. I framed this image to place the tree in the middle, flanked by the contrasting elements. Exposure was very tricky on this image – and histogram was used to ensure that the reflection was not blown out – or the shadowed canyon wall overly dark.
