Brompton Open Day

During the 19c the population of London grew so much that the parish church yards became unable to contain the dead. The government ordered seven large privately run cemeteries to be build on what was then the outskirts of the city. This is one still in use. They competed with each other and some offered catacombe internment, more expensive than burial ,less so than a tomb.
