The Crandall Peak Trail is NS#5 in "Northern California Backcountry Adventures." It's rated as a difficulty 3 but that is only in a few spots. In fact 8 miles of the of it is paved and most is graded dirt. A couple sections truely rate a 3 with loose rock, rocky outcrops in the road bed and some sizeable holes and ruts.
