What a day! We went on our first ever off-roading excursion - down in the valleys and to the tops of the mountains. Our driver picked us up from our motel at 7:50 a.m., took us to the rental place so we could sign their forms stating we or our families wouldn't sue if we ran off of a mountain and headed off down The Million Dollar Highway. It was a BEAUTIFUL day although a tad chilly when we first started, and Colorado skies are the most gorgeous shade of blue I've ever seen. We went to places where we'd never been and saw some of the most incredible scenery. My only complaint is I couldn't stop as often as I wanted for pictures - it was quite painful driving by all of those amazing photo opportunities. The wildflowers had started blooming and probably were in full bloom a week or two later. Our driver was an excellent driver and knew every old mine, when it was built, all the history, etc. But next time we'll rent our own jeep and drive ourselves. He dropped us off at our motel at 5 p.m. - a full day of fun, adventure and sometimes being scared senseless.
The truck we rode in all day - sort of looks like something from Jurassic Park
First stop - ghost town
Colorado wildflower
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree .....
Life amongst the ruins
We bounced around on roads like this all day
I kept thinking of the song "The Sound of Music" ....
