Shetland is an archipelago off the northeast coast of mainland Scotland. The islands lie to the northeast of Orkney, 280 km from the Faroe Islands. The total area is approximately 1,466 kmē (566 sq mi). The islands' administrative centre is Lerwick.
Shetland has developed its own distinctive culture and economy. The main industries are fishing, tourism, agriculture, knitwear and oil. Many visitors come to the islands to enjoy the outstanding nature and wildlife, the dramatic scenery, the ancient monuments, and the unique way of island life. The Norse and Vikings gave the islands the place names and unique culture which set them apart from Scotland. The Shetland pony is a breed of pony originating in the Shetland isles. They have have heavy coats, short legs and are considered quite intelligent. Shetlands range in size from a minimum height of approximately 71 cm to an official maximum height 107 cm at the withers. They are a very strong breed of pony, used for riding, driving, and pack purposes.

I spent one week on these Islands in a group led by Micky Maher and then another five days on my own to get these pictures.
