Malmberget mining community north of the Arctic Circle has been undergoing a monumental transformation for a few years now. Due to undermining and sinkholes, large parts of the center are being demolished or moved. The mining company LKAB has total responsibility for the project. Several properties will be moved to Koskullskulle, while others will have newly built replacement houses away in Gällivare. The transformation is monumental and parts of society have been transformed into a ghost town.
I visited Malmberget with my partner Susanne the same day my granddaughter was born - June 9, 2020
