The escalator, at 58 meters long, is the tallest freestanding escalator in Germany. It transports visitors to a height of 24 meters in 90 seconds, into the Ruhr Museum.
The coal washing plant, which now houses the museum, was a massive machine for processing coal during its operational days.
The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is considered a landmark of the Ruhr region and is a popular subject for photographs.
