The Isar is a river in Tyrol (Austria) and Bavaria (Germany) that is not navigable for watercraft larger than rafts.
It rises in the Alps in the Tyrolean part of the Karwendel Mountains in the Hinterautal valley. After about 22 km below Scharnitz,
it crosses the state border into Bavaria, where it flows, still in the Alps, first through Mittenwald.
After a 292 km long course, it flows south of Deggendorf into the Danube from the right.
The wild Isar River in Bavaria offers various opportunities for swimming, especially along the upper Isar.
