While one breathes in an atmosphere reminiscent of the Middle Ages on the Largo de São Tiago, one immediately notices in the architecture of the Largo do Toural the desire for wide and open building that was so typical of the Enlightenment of the 18th century. The square illustrates the different urban historical phases that have remained alive in Guimarães.
