The photo shows a view of the cranes located at the port of Bamberg. In the past, incoming ships were loaded and unloaded with this.
The port was once the economic center of Bamberg. In 1156, Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa granted the city the so-called staple right.
From that point on, every ship passing through Bamberg was obliged to stop in the harbor and offer its goods for sale on site for three days.
From the Kranen, visitors have a beautiful view of the old town. The towers of the monastery on Michaelsberg can also be seen in the background.
