The Büttnerhaus (cooper's house) from Wipfeld is not only a particularly representative, but also an unusual building: in 1685-87 Nikolaus Schneider had it added to an existing barn that was probably built in 1668 as a two-story half-timbered building. The ground floor is thought to have once housed a wine press and a cooper's workshop, which was also clad with wooden panelling. Making barrels to store wine was an important trade in this region.
