Zwetschgenknödel with Vanilla sauce

They are made of Zwetschgen which are wrapped around with a potatoe tough and poached in water like dumplings. Served hot in homemade vanilla sauce, decorated with breadcrumbs melted in warm butter with sugar and cinnamon. Sounds a lot of work, it is, but heavenly. Originally a Bohemian recipe!!
PS. I opened one dumpling for you to see the fruit in side!

Zwetschgenknödel hab ich schon lang nicht mehr gegessen. Tolles Foto und Rezept. Meine Oma aus Oberbayern hat die früher gekocht. In der Küche war sie die Knödel Königin!

Boris... this is to die for and your photo is superb! I have made a recipe similar to this with apricots and as I remember the little dumplings are topped with melted butter, a sprinkling of sugar and some chopped nuts.

My mother used to make apple dumplings poached in water as you have described and always served them with a vanilla sauce. I could never find a recipe. I Googled "Zwetschglenknodel" and now have recipes to try. Thank you for a fond memory and taste of the past! V.
