Barcelos in northern Portugal is located on the Rio Cávade, around 60 km north of Porto. It is 22 km to Braga and approx. 17 km to the Portuguese Atlantic coast. Barcelos is where the legend of the Rooster of Barcelos originated, which is now one of the most important national symbols of Portugal.
