M101 - ASA DDM60 Pro - Shock and Awe

Negev Desert, Israel

This frame is a 15 min. unguided frame which has only been Digitally Developed, and sized to be 1570 pixels wide.

Shock and awe (technically known as rapid dominance) is a military doctrine based on the use of
overwhelming power, dominant battlefield awareness, dominant maneuvers, and spectacular displays
of force to paralyze the enemy's perception of the battlefield and destroy its will to fight. The
doctrine was written by Harlan K. Ullman and James P. Wade in 1996 and is a product of the National
Defense University of the United States (ref. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_and_awe)

Here, the SHOCK was me pulling (by mistake) on the focuser cable, thus kicking the Veloce OTA a full 2
arcmin away (yes, that's 90 pixels of 1.85 arcsec each), amidst a 15 minute unguided frame;

The AWE came when the frame was downloaded, only to see that the ASA DDM60 Pro, has immediately and
accurately brought the OTA back to the right pixel, and went on tracking accurately through the full
unguided 15 min. frame - with no data loss, nor no position lost.

The movement back and forth can be seen at the bright stars, and the comet-like tail they all have.

This is a real story, that has taken place deep in the Negev Desert, two nights ago...
