Dick Dale

Back in 1962 I was a surfer and the king of surf guitar was Dick Dale. My best fiend lived in Huntington Beach and when I was visiting we would get a ride over the Rendezvous Ballroom in Newport Beach (Balboa). This was a famous dance ballroom popular with the big bands of the 40's. So, we danced to surf music after long days out on our surfboards.

He is now well known with another generation for the movie "Pulp Fiction" (1992) which used his music to add even more "edge" to a now classic movie by Quentin Tarantino and starring John Travolta.

Great Shots of one great guitar player. Most people who try to imitate him, have got to have their fingers untied. Thanks like the monochrome too, toning is real nice.

I used to go to the Rendezvous Ballroom too. I can still hear the sounds of the surf guitar in my head! Great gallery, brings back memories. V

Great job capturing the King of Surf Guitar. Dick Dale's style has been copied for years but never matched! Dick's guitar playing was one of the things that inspired me to pick up a guitar (that and the notion that it would impress the girls in my 8th grade class.. of course they were not impressed but playing the guitar has brought me countless hours of fun.)

Is that his son on drums?

Love this guy's music! I'm in that other generation which discovered Dick Dale via "Pulp Fiction." Great movie and Quentin Tarantino soundtracks are always cool. Great captures Jim, thx for sharing. BV
