"Island of stone money".
Yap is the most traditional of the Micronesian states. Even on Yap proper it is still not uncommon to see men dressed in loincloth and women in grasskirt or lavalava only.
Allthoug USD is used in daily life, stone money is still used as currency for some larger transactions.
PS! You will not find any pics of "toppless" women here as most people in Yap (especially those in trad. dress) don't like being pointed at by tourists cameras. (which I understand and respect - of course!)

Sure miss my home place. Left Yap in June 1980 and never went back. Don't know any families back there.
Raised up with a wonderful Chamorro family here on Guam. Trying to see if I could remember anything by this picture's.
