M5 is a bright globular star cluster in the constellation Serpens.
One of the oldest globular clusters in the galaxy it has a large population of red giant stars, each of which is several thousand times as bright as the sun.
Sub exposures taken on 5-27-07 Average seeing and transparency. Moon 80% illuminated!
