Snow Buntings at Lower Green's Run boat launch, Bald Eagle State Park, PA
Always a good sign of winter for me,is finding the first Snow Buntings of the season. These birds breed on the tundra and overwinter here in Pennsylvania. They prefer open areas such as gravel parking lots, open, rocky areas along lake shores or boat launching areas. I happened to find these birds last Sunday morning (11/16/08). Camera gear: Nikon D200, Nikkor 300mm f4, AF lens, Nikon SB-28 flash, set on 1/8 power and fitted with a Lumiquest Snoot (flash extender), hand-held.

On the lookout for overhead predators and keeping a wary eye on the human!
