Here are a male and female Purple Finch that were visiting my seed feeder this afternoon. I had just taken this feeder down for the season yesterday, but remembered this morning that last year about this time, I had photographed a female Purple Finch at a similar feeder in this old birch. I first noticed that the female was different from the House Finch females, and was glad I had decided to put up the feeder again. I wasn't as observant when viewing the male through the lens; just thought it was another House Finch male. The camera's eye, however, caught the truth, as I found out later while viewing the images on my Epson P3000 viewer (great device!!). This was the second time for me to photograph a female Purple Finch up close, but the first time to get an image of the male!
