Common Grackles seeking food while migrating; Or the great maize mania!!
A flock of approximately 20 Common Grackles stopped by my backyard feeders for some food and drink. The ear of field corn I had stuck in a hole in the decaying gray birch stump was originally intended for the gray and red squirrels. Preparing chicken noodle soup from scratch, I saw this photo op from the kitchen window. Grabbed the camera off the dining room table and for the sake of not scaring off the birds, shot these images directly through the recently cleaned dining room windows.

First grackle arrives at ear of corn.
This one's doing a good job of cleaning off the kernels!
Interloper arrives from the rear!
I claim this prize!!!
Move along No. 1 and make some room for me!
Second intruder makes a pass at No. 2.
Third interlopper sneaks up the trunk and off goes No. 2!
But No. 2 doesn't give up so easily! "Not so fast buddy!!!!"
Third thief comes from the right. I'm meaner by far, so beat it!
So, No. 3 takes the prize. " I'm King of the Cob!"
