Purple Finch female

Today, 4/27/08, I had my first Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus) visit my feeders; first time in 16 years. When I first noticed this finch, it was perched on a branch near the tube feeder. It looked lighter and different from my House Finch 'regulars'. I quickly went to the house and grabbed my D200 and 300mm Nikor lens. The bird was not fidgety and as I slowly approached, it went to the feeder for black oil sunflower seeds. Howard Boro is not exactly prime Purple Finch habitat, so this bird must have been migrating north, towards the Appalachian Plateau.
