Canvasbacks at the Marina: BESP

13 Canvasbacks were on the only open water at Bald Eagle State Park lake today: at the marina where the floating docs are kept ice-free by recirculating water around them. The temperature had soared to 41-degrees F today. Weather was cloudy with a light drizzel of rain. These birds seemed to be 'taking their ease' and were shy about my approaching within 20ft, via the floating dock that stretches halfway into the marina. This images were made with the older Olympus EP-2, a VF-1 electronic finder and a new Panasonic 45-200 f4-5.6 zoom lens ( equilvalent to a 90-400mm lens in full-frame) with image stabilization. Image quality is not up to par with a Nikon DSLR and a $1,000 zoom lens, but is acceptable, considering you can have a nice travel kit with the Olympus EP-2, this lens, the Olympus 14-40mm kit lens and an excellent Olympus 17mm f2.8 wide angle lens, a compact flash unit, extra batteries, memory cards and a filter kit all in a small shoulder bag, which weights quite a bit less than my D7000 and a Nikon 80-200 f2.8, or my Nikon 300mm f4. Two images: BESP ice-scape and the Sandhill Cranes at Tadpole Rd, at dusk.
